The great mysteries of the unknown

Every desire we have holds some kind of mystery within it.

When we begin to explore absolutely anything that is new or fresh to us, it comes with a certain level of embracing the unknown.

I can confidently say that what lies in the unknown is often the thing that both intrigues people into doing something but also deters them all in the same breath. I myself have found that I can easily fall into fear of the unknown, but if I truly give myself the space to feel everything as it is happening I end up embracing the unknown instead.

This is a practice I've learned to do my whole life, I can't remember who exactly taught it to me in the first place, but I just remember being faced with the choice to be afraid of what could be or to be excited about it. Other teachers have encouraged this over time... Mike Dooley and my Guru Anandji come to mind immediately.

I'm sharing this now because for the most part when it comes to the wide world of spiritual exploration as a whole, people shy away from it because of what lies in the great mystery of the unseen or the unknown.

Many clients in the past have admitted to me that they avoided exploring spirituality because they were afraid to face their pain, their shadows and, if it was an intuitive practice, they were afraid that they would see something that would portend of a negative happening yet to arrive in the future.

The more I learn to trust my intuition and understand that the great mystery is just a part of life and not something to be feared... the more I truly enjoy it and how it comes to me.

You have two choices here:

  1. Avoid the unknown and as such avoid life and all the possibilities of what could be for you.
  2. Embrace the unknown and see it as part of the great adventure of our existence, and just another part of life.

You have no idea if you will meet someone or even if someone will leave you... does it stop you from enjoying your time with that person?

You have no idea if the psychic you just saw is actually going to predict your future... does it stop you from enjoying the act of someone reading your energy back to you?

You have no idea if you will live another week, month or year... does it stop you from planning fun activities?

Life is full of all kinds of great mysteries, and I believe that our desires hold the biggest mysteries of all. They hold not only the great mystery of our potential, but also the great mystery of change, greatness and joy!

The tighter we hold onto and attempt to control all the different aspects and sequences of our life, the more we are resisting that which we desire, and desires to come to us. Control is an illusion, nothing is certain and the only thing we can do is learn to embrace life as it is in every moment.

If you dig deeply enough into the unknown waters of yourself, you are sure to find all kinds of treasures. Those treasures will make you stronger, wiser and ultimately cultivate growth in your life.

Here are some ways we can begin to learn to embrace the unknown:

  • Have parts of your life that you don't plan or attempt to predict

I know without having to ask that for some reading my words this is easier said than done... I've been there in your shoes, so I invite you to explore releasing control around the things that are already within your comfort zone first - this is usually what happens in your home. Where can you relax a bit? And then from there, move on to doing it in a space that you feel safe and secure in like a best friend's home or a family member's place. Let yourself explore what releasing control, plans and predictions actually feels like before trying to do it for major parts of your life. Take your time. There is never a rush.

  • Take time to be present, even for 5 minutes a day

I know that being present in today's world is hard, there are so many things always trying to draw our attention away! So, think of this one as being present with yourself on a walk or with your dog, when you journal in the morning, listening to music and/or dancing, moving your body and really breathing into it, being present with your kids if you are a parent, having fun with your partner... There are so many fun opportunities to be present! Make it a game and see how many moments of presents you can gift yourself throughout the day!

  • Try not to compare the past to the present or future

This one is quite frequent! People often base their future or present on what has been instead of what could be. Just because it happened in the past, does not mean it will happen again in the future. Give your life the blessing of expecting nothing specific, go into every experience with an open mind and heart and let yourself explore what happens when you have no expectations.

  • Become curious and spontaneous

Curiosity is such a fun energy to cultivate! Being creatures who have about 80% negative thoughts, we already effortlessly tend to cultivate all kinds of negative stories and "what if's" of how it could all go wrong... instead I invite you to explore all the positive "what if's" of your life. What if it all fails and I suck? Yeah... that is a possibility for sure. But what if you succeed, what if you win at this, what if your life gets abundantly better?! I can honestly keep going here. Become curious of what could be in the light of love instead of the light of fear.

Spontaneity is something that has truly made my life magical many times! When I create a foundation of spontaneity, I naturally begin to think outside the box of my comforts and routines, which creates all kinds of new experiences in what would most likely remain mundane and ordinary for me. When we are spontaneous, we act out of pure impulse - a fancy word for instinct and intuition. This is an easy way to let your soul lead the way, you read the energy and instantly respond in the moment. When you use spontaneity as a tool for embracing the unknown, you naturally begin to learn to trust yourself more too.

All your desires hold mysteries, just as all life does, the biggest difference is that your desires are placed inside of you by your soul. They are there FOR you, and you alone. No one else wants what you want in the way you want it. What is desired by you is destined for you, and if you want to achieve that which you want it will require you to have courage in the face of the unknown... to look it in the eye and say "I see you fear, but I choose love again".

Embrace your fear, let it have the light, and then choose courage and your fear will not revisit again.

To the unknown and beyond,
Emily
